Violation of Probation

If you are accused of violating probation, you need to know that a probation hearing can be as serious as the original trial.  If you are found guilty, you could be sentenced more severely for the original crime, including jail time.  You need a qualified Connecticut criminal defense attorney to present your case in the hearing.

Dan Lyons has the experience to ensure the best possible outcome if you are facing a probation hearing.  He can help in many ways:

  • He will discuss the details of your situation with you to determine if you did, in fact, violate the conditions of your probation.
  • If you did technically violate your probation, he will look for mitigating circumstances that explain why you did it.
  • If appropriate, he will find witnesses who can testify on your behalf.
  • He will defend your case in the hearing.

Youthful offender charges

Connecticut’s youthful offender law governs the handling of misdemeanor of felony crimes committed by a youth, typically between the ages of 16 and 18.  No longer considered to be children, but not quite adults, youthful offender sentences can be similar to those imposed on adult offenders.

Dan Lyons’ experience with youthful offender defense provides strong representation in court, which can grant many benefits, even when the offender is guilty:

  • Inclusion in the youthful offender program, as opposed to trial in a more severe criminal court
  • Handling of appeals
  • The smallest possible sentence
  • The possibility of supervision, community service, or restitution in lieu of jail time

All charges in juvenile court

Children under age 18 are treated differently in the Connecticut criminal courts than adult offenders.  In addition to the potential for lower sentences, a child’s criminal record is required to be expunged at a certain age.  In spite of these differences, juvenile charges can be very serious, requiring expert legal representation.

As a parent, you don’t want one error, no matter how large, to affect your child’s future.  The good news is that an attorney with Connecticut juvenile court experience knows the ins and outs of presenting cases in juvenile court.  Dan Lyons has 30 years of criminal law experience, including serving as a State’s Attorney.  His experience on both sides of the criminal courtroom provide your child with the best possible chances to reduce or dismiss charges, and even erase the records.

Administrative Law

Some legal activities seem administrative in nature.  Too often, people are tempted to get the forms, fill them out, and generally handle these cases themselves.  In fact, if the forms are incomplete, or the information provided is not compelling, the process does not go well.  You may have only one chance to get it right – that’s why you need an attorney who understands the process and knows how to file effective legal documents.

Dan Lyons can help you with any of these situations:

  • Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) suspensions
  • Medical review license suspensions
  • DUI-related license suspensions
  • Pardon applications
  • Pistol permit revocation hearings

Real Estate

Buying or selling a house or commercial property may be the largest financial transaction you’ll encounter in your life.  When you hire an attorney, it is critical that you select one with a high degree of experience in real estate transactions, one who will protect your interests throughout the transaction.

Daniel A. Lyons & Associates can help with these real estate areas:

  • Residential closings
  • Reverse mortgages
  • Commercial closings
